Quick answer: It depends on the device, not just the brand. A Zepbound or Mounjaro single-dose pen or vial can be kept unrefrigerated at up to 86°F (30°C) for up to a total of 21 days. A Zepbound or Mounjaro KwikPen or multi-dose vial has 30 days at room temperature, and once opened is thrown away at the first of a total of 30 days at room temperature, 30 days after first use, or 4 weekly doses. A Wegovy single-dose pen or syringe, or an Ozempic single-dose syringe, can be kept at 46°F to 86°F (8°C to 30°C) for up to 28 days. An Ozempic pen or Wegovy FlexTouch pen is stored in the refrigerator until first use, then can be kept for up to 56 days, in or out of the fridge; the FlexTouch instructions also say to throw the pen away after all four doses.
Every device, side by side
Taken from the current FDA labels on DailyMed (prescribing information, Medication Guide and Instructions for Use), read 2026-11-04. Never apply one device's rule to another: the numbers differ even within one brand.

How long can Zepbound and Mounjaro be out of the fridge?
Single-dose pen and single-dose vial. "If needed, each single-dose pen or single-dose vial can be stored unrefrigerated at temperatures not to exceed 30°C (86°F) for up to a total of 21 days." (Zepbound PI 16.2) "Discard single-dose pen and single-dose vial after a total of 21 days at room temperature." (Zepbound PI 16.2) Mounjaro's label says the same: "If needed, each single-dose pen or single-dose vial can be stored unrefrigerated at temperatures not to exceed 30°C (86°F) for up to a total of 21 days." (Mounjaro PI 16.2)
KwikPen and multi-dose vial, unopened. "The unopened multi-dose vial or single-patient-use KwikPen can be used until the expiration date on the label if kept in the refrigerator." (Zepbound PI 16.2) "If stored at room temperature [up to 30°C (86°F)], throw away unopened multi-dose vial or single-patient-use KwikPen after 30 days." (Zepbound PI 16.2)
KwikPen and multi-dose vial, in use. "Store opened (in-use) multi-dose vial or single-patient-use KwikPen in the original carton in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F) or at room temperature [up to 30°C (86°F)]." (Zepbound PI 16.2) "Throw away opened multi-dose vial or single-patient-use KwikPen after a total of 30 days at room temperature, 30 days after first use, or after taking 4 weekly doses, even if there is medicine left in it." (Zepbound PI 16.2) The Mounjaro label uses the same wording for its KwikPen and multi-dose vial (Mounjaro PI 16.2). The KwikPen holds 4 fixed weekly doses and will not dial a full dose after the fourth.
How long can Wegovy be out of the fridge?
Single-dose pen (including Wegovy HD) and single-dose syringe. "Store the WEGOVY prefilled single-dose pen or single-dose syringe in the refrigerator from 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F). If needed, prior to the pen or syringe cap removal, the pen can be kept from 8°C to 30°C (46°F to 86°F) up to 28 days." (Wegovy PI 16) "Throw away the WEGOVY single-dose pen or syringe if it has been frozen, has been exposed to light or temperatures above 86°F (30°C), has been out of the refrigerator for 28 days or longer, or after use." (Wegovy Medication Guide) The window applies before the cap comes off: "Your pen will no longer be sterile if you store an unused pen without the cap, if you pull the pen cap off and put it on again, or if the pen cap is missing." (Wegovy pen Instructions for Use)
FlexTouch pen (4 doses of 2.4 mg). "Prior to first use, store WEGOVY FlexTouch single-patient-use pen in a refrigerator between 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F)." (Wegovy PI 16) "After first use, store WEGOVY FlexTouch pen between 59°F to 86°F (15°C to 30°C) or in the refrigerator between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) for up to 56 days." (Wegovy Medication Guide) "Throw away if the single-patient-use WEGOVY FlexTouch pen has been frozen, has been exposed to light or temperatures above 86°F (30°C), or has been out of the refrigerator for 56 days or longer." (Wegovy FlexTouch Instructions for Use) "After having injected all four doses, there may still be medicine left in the pen. The pen should be thrown away (disposed of)." (Wegovy FlexTouch Instructions for Use) The FlexTouch instructions give a narrower room-temperature range than the prescribing information and Medication Guide: "After first use, store WEGOVY FlexTouch between 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C) or in a refrigerator 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) for up to 56 days." (Wegovy FlexTouch Instructions for Use) The calculator shows both and does not pick one.
How long can Ozempic be out of the fridge?
Ozempic pen. "Prior to first use, the OZEMPIC pen should be stored in a refrigerator between 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F)." (Ozempic PI 16) "After first use of the OZEMPIC pen, the pen can be stored for 56 days at controlled room temperature 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F) or in a refrigerator 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F)." (Ozempic PI 16) "The OZEMPIC pen you are using should be disposed of (thrown away) after 56 days, even if it still has OZEMPIC left in it." (Ozempic pen Instructions for Use) The label's storage table gives no room-temperature time before first use, so for an unused pen that has been out of the fridge the calculator gives no date.
Ozempic single-dose prefilled syringe. "Store the OZEMPIC prefilled syringe refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F). If needed, the syringe can be kept from 8°C to 30°C (46°F to 86°F) up to 28 days." (Ozempic PI 16) "Record the date your prefilled syringe was removed from the refrigerator and dispose of it, if not used within 28 days." (Ozempic prefilled syringe Instructions for Use)
Putting it back in the fridge
A script search of all four labels for any sentence about putting a device back in the refrigerator found none. What the labels do say:
- Zepbound and Mounjaro single-dose pen or vial: The label counts the days as a total ("for up to a total of 21 days"), so separate times out of the fridge add up. Our search of the label found no sentence about putting it back in the refrigerator.
- Zepbound and Mounjaro KwikPen or multi-dose vial: Once opened, the label lets you keep it in the refrigerator or at room temperature up to 30°C (86°F), and counts "a total of 30 days at room temperature". Our search of the label found no sentence about putting an unopened one back in the refrigerator.
- Wegovy single-dose pen or syringe: The label gives the 28 days before the cap comes off, and says to throw it away once it has been out of the refrigerator for 28 days or longer. Our search of the label found no sentence about putting it back in the refrigerator, so the calculator counts from the first time it left the fridge.
- Wegovy FlexTouch pen: After first use, the label lets you keep it at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to 56 days. Before first use, it says to store it in the refrigerator. Its throw-away list includes a pen that has been out of the refrigerator for 56 days or longer; our search of the label found no other room-temperature allowance for an unused FlexTouch pen.
- Ozempic pen: After first use, the label lets you keep it at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 56 days. Before first use, it says to keep it in the refrigerator; our search of the label found no room-temperature time for an unused pen.
- Ozempic single-dose syringe: The syringe instructions say to record the date it was removed from the refrigerator and dispose of it if not used within 28 days, so the calculator counts from that date. Our search of the label found no sentence about putting it back in the refrigerator.
Heat, freezing and needles
- Frozen. Every label says not to use it: "Do not freeze ZEPBOUND. Do not use ZEPBOUND if frozen." (Zepbound PI 16.2) "Do not freeze MOUNJARO. Do not use MOUNJARO if frozen." (Mounjaro PI 16.2) "Do not freeze WEGOVY and do not use if it has been frozen." (Wegovy PI 16) "Do not freeze OZEMPIC and do not use OZEMPIC if it has been frozen." (Ozempic PI 16) Wegovy adds: "Do not store WEGOVY in the freezer or directly adjacent to the refrigerator cooling element." (Wegovy PI 16) The Ozempic label says the same of its pen: "Do not store in the freezer or directly adjacent to the refrigerator cooling element." (Ozempic PI 16)
- Above 86°F (30°C). Only Wegovy's label says to throw a device away after temperatures above 86°F (30°C). Zepbound says "Protect ZEPBOUND from heat and light." (Zepbound PI 16.2) Mounjaro says "Protect MOUNJARO from heat and light." (Mounjaro PI 16.2) Ozempic says of its pen: "OZEMPIC should be protected from excessive heat and sunlight." (Ozempic PI 16) "Do not leave it in a car or other place where it can get too hot or too cold." (Ozempic pen Instructions for Use) Our search of the Zepbound, Mounjaro and Ozempic labels found no instruction on what to do with a device that got warmer than 30°C (86°F), so the calculator gives no date and points you to your pharmacist.
- Needles. "Do not store the Pen with the needle attached to prevent leaking, blocking the needle, and air from entering the Pen." (Zepbound KwikPen Instructions for Use) "Always remove and safely discard the needle after each injection and store the OZEMPIC pen without an injection needle attached." (Ozempic PI 16) "Store WEGOVY FlexTouch pen without an injection needle attached." (Wegovy Medication Guide)
How the calculator counts
It adds the label's days to the date and time the device left the fridge. A limit is reached at the boundary: at exactly 21 days for a Zepbound single-dose pen the result is At or past the label's limit, because the label says to discard it "after a total of 21 days at room temperature". Where a device has two date limits running (a KwikPen's 30 days at room temperature and 30 days after first use), the earlier one sets the date and the other is listed under it. The 4-dose limit is not a date: for a device that has one, the result shows how many doses are left, from the number you enter, and gives the discard result at 4. Times are your device's local time.
It does not tell you whether a dose is safe to take, and it cannot know how warm your device actually got. If anything about your device is in doubt, ask your pharmacist or the maker: Lilly at 1-800-LillyRx (1-800-545-5979), or Novo Nordisk at 1-888-693-6742 (Ozempic) or 1-833-934-6891 (Wegovy), the numbers printed on the labels.
Frequently asked questions
How long can Zepbound be out of the fridge?
It depends on the device. A Zepbound single-dose pen or single-dose vial can be kept unrefrigerated at up to 30°C (86°F) for up to a total of 21 days, then the label says to discard it. An unopened Zepbound KwikPen or multi-dose vial kept at room temperature is thrown away after 30 days. Once opened, the label says to throw it away at the first of a total of 30 days at room temperature, 30 days after first use, or 4 weekly doses.
How long can Mounjaro be out of the fridge?
Mounjaro's label uses the same numbers as Zepbound's, device by device: up to a total of 21 days at up to 30°C (86°F) for a single-dose pen or single-dose vial, and for a KwikPen or multi-dose vial 30 days at room temperature while unopened, or, once opened, the first of a total of 30 days at room temperature, 30 days after first use, or 4 weekly doses.
How long can Wegovy be out of the fridge?
A Wegovy single-dose pen (including Wegovy HD) or single-dose syringe can be kept at 46°F to 86°F (8°C to 30°C) for up to 28 days, before the cap comes off. The label says to throw it away once it has been out of the refrigerator for 28 days or longer, or exposed to temperatures above 86°F (30°C). A Wegovy FlexTouch pen is kept in the refrigerator before first use; after first use it can be kept at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to 56 days. The FlexTouch instructions also say to throw the pen away after all four doses, even if medicine is left.
How long can Ozempic be out of the fridge?
Before first use, the label says to store the Ozempic pen in the refrigerator. After first use, the pen can be stored for 56 days at 59°F to 86°F (15°C to 30°C) or in the refrigerator, and is thrown away after 56 days even if medicine is left. An Ozempic single-dose prefilled syringe can be kept at 46°F to 86°F (8°C to 30°C) for up to 28 days.
Can I put my pen back in the fridge?
Our search of the four labels found no sentence about putting a device back in the refrigerator. What they do say differs by device. Zepbound and Mounjaro count the room-temperature days of a single-dose pen or vial, and of an opened KwikPen or multi-dose vial, as a total, so separate times out add up, and an opened KwikPen or multi-dose vial may be kept in the refrigerator or at room temperature. An opened Ozempic pen or Wegovy FlexTouch pen may also be kept either way for up to 56 days after first use. For a Wegovy single-dose pen or syringe, or an Ozempic syringe, the calculator counts from the first time it left the fridge.
What if my pen got too warm or froze?
All four labels say not to use the medicine if it has been frozen. Wegovy's label also says to throw a pen or syringe away if it has been exposed to temperatures above 86°F (30°C). The Zepbound, Mounjaro and Ozempic labels give room-temperature storage up to 30°C (86°F); our search of those labels found no instruction on what to do with a device that got warmer, so ask your pharmacist.
Does this apply to compounded or research vials?
No. These are the label rules for factory-made Zepbound, Mounjaro, Wegovy and Ozempic devices. They do not transfer to a compounded or research vial you mixed yourself: FDA recommends discarding a multiple-dose vial within 28 days after first use. Our storage calculators for tirzepatide and semaglutide vials work out that date.
